We have been working with GRS roadstone and J. Murphy & Sons to develop a robust and sustainable supply chain of aggregates to support this vital infrastructure project in Yorkshire.
What is Yorkshire GREEN?
Yorkshire GREEN involves the upgrade and reinforcement of the high-voltage electricity network in North Yorkshire to improve the transfer of clean energy across the Country. The project is a key part of delivering ‘The Great Grid Upgrade’ – the largest overhaul of the electricity transmission network across England and Wales in generations.
What are the key benefits of the project?
- Increased resilience and security of our electricity grid
- Greater flexibility where the integration of renewable energy sources are concerned
- Enhancing the local environment through the delivery of a 10% uplift in biodiversity.
Yorkshire GREEN involves building two new electricity substations, including Overton and Monk Fryston. The new substation at Overton will have an approximate footprint of 60,000m2 (6 hectares). Three new pylons will also be installed near to the substation. The new Monk Fryston substation will have a footprint of approximately 80,000m2 (8 hectares).
Over the last 10 years we have invested in our heavy plant, crushers, HGV fleet and building a team of experts who are perfectly positioned to deliver a project of this size. With volumes ranging from 4,000 tonnes to 11,000t per week we relish the opportunity to be a critical cog for this project and delivering a better future of energy supplies to our region.
